Nuclear Medicine
Dr. Yoshiharu Yonekura
Senior Scientific Advisor at Micron
Dr. Yoshiharu Yonekura is the Emeritus Professor at University of Fukui, the Honorary Director at Hamamatsu Medical Imaging Center of Hamamatsu Medical Photonics Foundation, and the Guest Professor at Institute for Radiation Sciences, Osaka University.
Dr. Yonekura has served as the President of Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Chair of International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) Task Group 101; Radiological Protection in Therapy with Radiopharmaceuticals and ICRP Task Group 87; Radiological Protection in Ion Beam Radiotherapy, the Chair of United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), and the Council member of Science Council of Japan. He has also served as President of the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Japan.
Dr. Yonekura has received his MD and Ph.D. at Kyoto University School of Medicine. He has been awarded The Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, Kuhl-Lassen Lectureship Award of Society of Nuclear Medicine (U.S.A.) and Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Award. Dr. Yonekura also has published 3 books, 52 book chapters as well as 385 peer reviewed articles in English.
Dr. Seigo Kinuya
Dr. Seigo Kinuya is a Professor at Kanazawa University, where he leads advanced research in nuclear medicine. He has held numerous prominent positions in academic and governmental organizations, including serving as President of the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine (JSNM), a Specially-Appointed Professor at Fukushima Medical University (Advanced Clinical Research Center, Fukushima Global Medical Science Center), a Committee Member for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences and a Deputy Director of Division 4 (radiation science, medicine and drug development, and industrial applications of radiation) at the Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI).
Dr. Kinuya received his MD and PhD from Kanazawa University School of Medicine. He is licensed as a Radiologist, a Specialist (JSNM), and a Certified PET Nuclear Medicine Physician (JSNM). His expertise spans nuclear imaging, radionuclide therapy, and translational research, and he has published extensively on theranostics, a key area of personalized medicine that combines diagnostic imaging and targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy.
As one of Japan’s leading experts in theranostics, Dr. Kinuya has made significant contributions to the development and clinical implementation of radiopharmaceuticals for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications, particularly in oncology. He continues to play a central role in promoting the integration of molecular imaging and therapy to make nuclear medicine more precise.
Dr. Kinuya received the 35th Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Award in 1996, the 2nd Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Encouragement Award in 2000, and the Best Science Paper Award from the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine in 2002. He has also published 371 English-language articles that were indexed in PubMed.
Dr. Tadashi Watabe
Dr. Tadashi Watabe is a Lecturer in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Osaka and a Visiting Professor at Tohoku University. He is actively involved in numerous national and international academic societies, including the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the Asia Oceania Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (AOFNMB), the Japanese Molecular Imaging Society (JSMI), the Japanese Cancer Association (JCA), and the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology (JSCO).
Dr. Watabe received his MD and PhD from the University of Osaka School of Medicine. He is a board-certified Radiologist, a Nuclear Medicine Specialist certified by the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine (JSNM), a Certified PET Nuclear Medicine Physician (JSNM), and a Fellow of the Asian Nuclear Medicine Board (ANMB).
Dr. Watabe is a leading researcher in molecular imaging and theranostics, contributing to precision nuclear medicine. He has also worked on assignment at the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. He has served as the Principal Investigator for investigator-initiated clinical trials on targeted alpha therapy using At-211 and for several clinical studies involving [F-18]FAPI-74, [F-18]FBPA, [C-11]HCA2969, and the Eagle-i trial with [F-18]PSMA-1007 at the University of Osaka Hospital. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, primarily focusing on the preclinical development of targeted alpha therapies using At-211 and Ac-225, and on theranostics approaches related to FAPI, LAT1, and EphA2.
He has received prestigious awards, including the 58th Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine Award in 2018, the Gold Award at the 6th Rising Nuclear Medicine Professional Challenge, AOCNMB2019 in 2019, the SNMMI Masahiro Iio, MD Travel Award in 2023, the SNMMI ERF–SNMMI Annual Meeting Travel Award in 2023, and the Encouragement Award from the Japan Radioisotope Association in 2024.
Cardiology
Dr. Toshiro Shinke
Dr. Shinke Toshiro is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Showa Medical University. He received his doctorate in medical science from Kobe University and has extensive clinical, research, and academic experience in cardiovascular disease, particularly in catheter-based interventions. He is internationally recognized for his work on intravascular imaging, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), and has authored more than 250 scientific publications in these areas.
Dr. Shinke serves in leadership roles across several academic societies, including the Japanese Circulation Society and the Japanese Association of Cardiovascular Intervention and Therapeutics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and the American Heart Association (AHA). In addition, he contributes to medical device development and regulatory strategy in Japan through his work with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
Neuro Radiology
Dr. Kohsuke Kudo
Dr. Kohsuke Kudo is a Professor at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine.
He specializes in neuroradiology and has vast research experience. Dr. Kudo developed software that integrates CT and MRI technologies for the high-speed image analysis of cerebral blood flow (perfusion). In 2006, he released PMA (Perfusion Mismatch Analyzer) as free software. Subsequently, PMAneo was approved by Japanese regulatory authorities in 2019 and also recieved medical device registration approval in Taiwan in 2022.
Recently, with the launch of new dementia treatments, issues related to ARIA (Amyloid-Related Imaging Abnormalities) readings have been highlighted. Dr. Kudo is a leading authority on ARIA readings in Japan.
Dr. Kudo is a member of several pretigious organizations, including the Japan Society for CNS Computed Imaging, the Japanese Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Japanese Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Japanese Society of Neuroradiology, the Radiological Society of North America, and the Japan Radiological Society. He has also published many papers on medical imaging.
Dr. Kudo received his Ph.D. from Hokkaido University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kudo has received several awards throughout his career, including the Excellent Paper Award by the Japanese Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in 2019, the JJR Excellent Reviewer Award by the Japanese Society of Radiology in 2018, the Academic Encouragement Award by the Japanese Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 2012, the Silver Award by the Japanese Society of Neuroradiology in 2010, and many more.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Tomohiro Iida
Dr. Tomohiro Iida is Professor & Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Tokyo, Japan. He is specialized in macular disease such as age-related macular degeneration, vitreoretinal disease, and imaging techniques. He is a member of the Macula Society, the Club Jules Gonin, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Japanese Ophthalmological Society, and Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society. He is also a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Certified Ophthalmologist Educator by the Japanese Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Iida received his MD at Gunma University. He is authorized as an Ophthalmologist and a supervisor from the Japanese Ophthalmological Society. He also has served numbers of important positions in many societies, including the President of Japanese Society for Ocular Circulation, the Executive Director of Japanese Ophthalmological Society, the Director of Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society, the trustee of International Ocular Circulation Society and the Council Member/Regional Secretary of Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.
Orthopedic Surgery
Dr. Atsuya Watanabe
Dr. Atsuya Watanabe is a renowned orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee joint surgery, sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation medicine. He is currently a visiting professor at the Chiba University, Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and practices at the Tsuga Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Clinic in Chiba, Japan.
Dr. Watanabe is an active member of several prestigious professional societies, including the Japanese Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (JSMRM) and the Japanese Knee Society (JKS), where he plays a leading role. He is also a member of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA). His commitment to education and collaboration is demonstrated by his participation in various conferences such as the TKC Ortho Conference, the Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR), and the Japanese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (JARM).
His achievements have been widely recognized, including receiving the Excellent Presentation Award at the 3rd Congress of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine (JSRM). In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious ESSR/ISS Prize for Best Presentation at the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR).
With extensive experience in knee surgery and sports injuries, Dr. Watanabe has made significant contributions to the advancement of MRI studies focused on knee repair in regenerative medicine. He has published numerous papers, with a particular focus on innovative approaches to MRI acquisition and clinical diagnosis of knee joint disorders.
SaMD
Dr. Toshiaki Furukawa
Dr. Toshiaki Furukawa is the Professor Emeritus at Graduate School of Medicine of Kyoto University and the Specially Appointed Professor at Growth Strategy Office of Kyoto University. He led the development of the behavior change application, “Kokoro App”. This application, jointly developed by Kyoto University and the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP), aims to treat depression. It is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, and his expertise played an important role in its development.
Dr. Furukawa is a leading expert in cognitive behavioral therapy. His expertise also includes clinical psychopharmacology, with a particular focus on the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders.
He is an active member of several prestigious professional societies, including the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology, the Japanese Society of Clinical Neuropsycho-pharmacology (JSCNP), the Japanese Society of Mood Disorders (JSMD), and the Japanese Association for Cognitive Therapy (JACT).
Dr. Furukawa’s achievements have also been widely recognized. He has been recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher” by Clarivate in Web of Science from 2021 to 2023, highlighting the significant impact of his research contributions to the field.
